International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC) Updated: 20/05/2008
The objectives of this convention include: preparation and establishment of a system for rapid response for treatment of severe pollution of the sea by oil and establishment of a mechanism for international cooperation. Israel ratified the OPRC in 1999. Enactment of national legislation in accordance with the convention is expected following the approval of the national contingency plan in a government decision. In May 2008, the Ministerial Environment Committee approved the plan.
